What we do

Four disciplines.
All led by partners.

Northstack is deliberately narrow. We do four things — Product Engineering, Platform & Infrastructure, AI & ML, and Design & Product — and within those four, we go deep. Each is led by a partner who has spent their career in that area.

Our approach

Depth where it counts.

We focus on the work we know best, and we go deep rather than wide. That focus means we understand the roles, the people, and the market dynamics in our area — not in the abstract, but from doing the work.

Every search is run by someone who knows the discipline. We take time to understand what a role actually needs before we start, and we are honest about whether we are the right firm to run it.

Questions about how we work across sectors

Why do you only recruit in four disciplines?
We believe depth matters more than breadth. By focusing on Product Engineering, Platform & Infrastructure, AI & ML, and Design & Product, we can go deep into each market — understanding the roles, the talent pool, and what actually makes someone good at the work. That focus means better hires for clients and better opportunities for candidates.
What does it mean that each discipline is led by a partner?
Every search in our four areas is run by a partner who has spent their career in that discipline. They understand the technical nuance, the market dynamics, and what good looks like — not from a handbook, but from doing the work. You get senior attention on every brief, not a junior recruiter reading from a script.
What if my role spans multiple disciplines?
Tell us what you're hiring for, and we'll work out which partner is best placed to run it. If a role genuinely sits across two areas — say, an ML Engineer who needs strong platform skills — we'll involve the right people from both sides. We're pragmatic about how work actually gets done.
Do you only work with tech companies?
No. We work with any organisation hiring in our four disciplines — that includes fintechs, consultancies, scale-ups, corporates building product teams, and research labs. What matters is the role, not the industry. If you're hiring Product Engineers, Platform Engineers, ML specialists, or Design & Product people, we can help.
How do you decide if you're the right firm for a brief?
We're honest about fit. If a role sits outside our four disciplines, or if we don't think we can deliver what you need, we'll tell you upfront. We'd rather turn down work than take on something we can't do well. That honesty is part of why clients come back.
What's the difference between contingent, retained, and interim placements?
Contingent means you only pay if we make a hire. Retained means we work exclusively on your brief for a fixed fee, usually for senior or hard-to-fill roles. Interim means placing someone on a contract basis, often to cover a gap or deliver a specific project. We'll recommend the model that makes sense for your situation.
Can you help if I'm not sure which discipline my role falls into?
Yes. Get in touch and describe what you're hiring for — we'll work out which partner should handle it. Sometimes the lines aren't clean, and that's fine. We care more about getting the brief right than fitting it into a neat box.
